| THE STEAD COMMUNITY AWARD |
| Bert and Hilda Stead lived in the village for many years and were actively involved in many aspects of village life. In particular; Bert was a member of the Parish council for many years, serving as Chairman from 1964 to 1973 and 1980 to 1982. In memory of their parents, John, Marcus, and Phillip Stead have generously donated two seats, one of which is in the Burial ground, the other being on the village green. In addition they have initiated THE STEAD COMMUNITY AWARD on an annual basis. Each year the residents of the village are invited to nominate someone whom they feel has made a valuable contribution to the life of the village. The Parish Council has been delegated to consider the nominations and choose the recipient of the award. Mr and Mrs Stead did much for the community of Cherry Willingham so it is indeed appropriate that they should be remembered in this way. The award in 2007 has been made to Rachel
Booth for her work with The
Cherry Players. She is the current Chairman of this organisation,
which has been providing activity, interest and entertainment for the
residents of Cherry Willingham for many years. Her enthusiasm, vitality
and talented directorship is an inspiration to the fifty or so members
of the Cherry Players, whose talents may have no other outlet or encouragement.
If you have not been to any of their regular productions, you have missed
